Software Engineer - Secure Container Images

About the role

Canonical is looking for a Software Engineer to own the path from upstream source to published, hardened container images. You will turn open source software into tested, signed, and continuously maintained artifacts that developers can deploy with confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain a portfolio of high‑quality, hardened container images.
• Design and operate automated CI/CD pipelines that build, test, scan, sign, publish, promote, and retire images across environments and architectures.
• Write tooling and tests to assess security compliance and cloud‑native compatibility.
• Collaborate with community, product security, platform, infrastructure, and customer‑facing teams.
• Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to hiring.

Required profile

• Proficiency in Bash and Python.
• Experience with CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
• Hands‑on experience building container images and using Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.
• Strong Linux systems knowledge and experience with package management or release engineering.
• Clear communication, end‑to‑end ownership, and a commitment to sharing knowledge.
