Software Engineering Manager (Backend SaaS)

About the role

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the reboot of its Landscape systems management solution for Ubuntu. You will guide a team to modernise the SaaS and on‑prem offering, ensuring enterprises can manage large Ubuntu estates effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of engineers, fostering talent through coaching, mentoring and hands‑on career development.
• Define and execute an engineering roadmap in collaboration with product managers and other stakeholders.
• Drive modern, agile software development practices and maintain a healthy, collaborative engineering culture.
• Contribute technically with code reviews, architecture decisions and optimisation of performance, reliability and quality.
• Engage with internal teams, the open‑source community and commercial partners, and travel 4‑6 weeks per year for events.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams and developing engineers.
• Strong technical background with hands‑on experience in Python and/or Golang.
• Ability to set expectations, communicate effectively and influence culture positively.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent, or comparable experience.
