Software Engineer, Open Source AI

About the role

Backblaze is seeking a Software Engineer to create and maintain open‑source AI integrations, frameworks, and example applications that showcase how B2 Cloud Storage can be used in AI workflows. The role involves continuous learning of emerging AI tools and collaborating with product and QA teams.

Key responsibilities

• Use AI coding agents to accelerate development of public and internal applications, SDKs, notebooks, and reference implementations.
• Implement and maintain open‑source AI integrations, frameworks, and example applications in Python, TypeScript, Go, JavaScript, and Rust.
• Contribute to open‑source projects through code contributions, issue triage, reviews, and ongoing maintenance.
• Ensure all open‑source assets meet high standards for testing, documentation, reproducibility, and developer usability.

Required profile

• Experience contributing to open‑source projects in one or more widely used languages.
• Comfortable owning and maintaining public repositories with external contributors.
• Practical understanding of AI workflows, including data ingestion, preprocessing, inference, and agent‑based systems.
• Strong written communication focused on developer experience and adoption.
