Senior Software Backend Engineer

About the role

Trashlab is the operating system for waste haulers, unifying dispatch, billing, calls and routes into one platform. We are looking for a senior backend engineer to own and scale the services that keep fleets running.

Key responsibilities

• Own the infrastructure that keeps fleets running.
• Design, build, and maintain backend services for real‑time vehicle tracking, route optimization, billing, and dispatch.
• Build for reliability and scale, setting up monitoring, alerting, and on‑call practices.
• Design data systems that handle complexity, model and evolve the PostgreSQL schema, manage migrations, and integrate with third‑party billing, telematics, and communication platforms.
• Shape the long‑term backend architecture in close collaboration with the founding team.

Required profile

• Strong backend fundamentals with production Node.js services, API design, database performance and distributed systems trade‑offs.
• Infrastructure experience managing cloud environments (AWS or GCP), containers (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform).
• Ownership mindset: able to scope ambiguous problems and ship solutions independently.
