Senior Data Platform Engineer

About the role

DEPT® is hiring hands-on Senior Data Engineers in Argentina to join the data engineering squads at one of its clients. This is not a marketing or e-commerce analytics role: the work focuses on complex, real-world datasets and turning them into reliable, well-modeled data.

Key responsibilities

• Build, run and maintain data pipelines end to end, from ingestion through transformation to analysis-ready tables.
• Write and maintain dbt models and SQL transformations on Databricks or Snowflake.
• Design data models and defend what a good model looks like, pushing back on designs that will not hold up.
• Own platform operations, including monitoring, alerting, incident response and capacity planning.
• Design reusable orchestration patterns with Airflow, Databricks Workflows or AWS services such as Glue, Step Functions and S3, with retries and failure handling.
• Contribute to CI/CD for the data platform, with automated testing, environment promotion and deployment pipelines for dbt models, jobs and infrastructure-as-code.
• Work with complex datasets such as people and employment data or financial data, and solve scale issues like partitioning, compute right-sizing, job concurrency and pipeline reliability.

Required profile

• 5-7 years of experience as a data engineer, including significant time building or operating a data platform.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken, as the team communicates with colleagues abroad.
• Experience with complex datasets beyond clickstream or e-commerce data.

Required skills

• Strong SQL and a general-purpose programming language such as Python.
• Databricks and/or Snowflake, and AWS data services such as S3, Glue, Step Functions and Lambda.
• Airflow or Databricks Workflows, and CI/CD for data workflows.
• Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tooling.
• Data modeling, data governance, security and operational practices.
• Streaming or document-store technologies (Kafka, MongoDB) are a plus.
