Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

About the role

DEPT, a technology and marketing services company, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Buenos Aires. The role is primarily backend focused, occasionally touching cloud infrastructure, and requires enough comfort with a modern frontend codebase to apply best practices. You will own significant parts of projects, turn semi-defined problems into plans and ship them, and work closely with product managers, engineers, marketing, sales and finance.

Key responsibilities

• Build and deploy scalable backend services and APIs for global brands, owning your workstreams and their dependencies
• Turn incomplete or ambiguous specs into clear requirements, tasks and stories with time estimates
• Take part in technical design of systems, schemas and pipelines, and advise on architecture and infrastructure
• Integrate third-party APIs and design the contracts frontend teams build against
• Perform code reviews and surface blockers, risks and client-facing issues early
• Advocate for testing, security, performance and CI/CD best practices
• Work with client stakeholders and build demos and presentations
• Apply AI and agentic capabilities to client work and share learnings internally and externally

Required profile

• Proven experience building and maintaining production-level backend systems
• Experience designing and integrating APIs and third-party systems
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (Google Cloud preferred, AWS or Azure also welcome)
• Daily use of GenAI productivity tools in development, and a working understanding of LLMs
• Independent research and a track record of delivering in a fast pace

Required skills

• Strong Python
• SQL and NoSQL databases
• Modern frontend (preferably Angular) enough to read code, review PRs and debug
• Git, Agile and CI/CD tooling
