Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant provides accurate and timely financial information to Segment and Corporate management and guides and supports less experienced staff in a fast-paced F&A shared services environment. The role contributes to the Shared Service strategy and execution, and helps foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and assist in completing financial reporting, receivables reports and client reconciliations
• Assist in planning and implementing accounting work and activities
• Build and maintain relationships with business segments and stakeholders, including clients
• Monitor key performance indicators and support compliance with internal controls, including SOX
• Support AFS management in building the AFS brand and help the team meet deadlines and deliverables
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, best-practice solutions and efficient, innovative processes, and support projects from planning through implementation, including requirements gathering, UAT, validation, training, stakeholder communication, risk mitigation and status reporting
• Support internal and external audits and oversee internal controls, including design, documentation, testing, issue remediation and ongoing SOX compliance
• Serve as a subject matter expert, review and analyse financial information prepared by others, and foster open communication

Required profile

• BA or BS in Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience
• At least 3 years of insurance accounting experience
• Strong collaboration and partnering skills, problem-solving and critical thinking
• Excellent written and verbal communication with management, staff and cross-functional stakeholders
• Organizational skills and commitment to company values

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and PowerPoint; Microsoft Office Suite
• In-depth knowledge of financial practices, including statutory accounting
• Preferred: Guidewire and Oracle ERP experience
• Preferred: Microsoft Fabric/Power BI, financial database concepts and AI tools for process improvement
