Nurse Consultant – Nursing Home Surveyor (Buncombe & Western Counties)

About the role

The Nurse Consultant (Nursing Home Surveyor) conducts regulatory inspections of nursing homes across Buncombe and surrounding western counties. This home‑based position ensures facilities meet federal and state standards, protecting the health and safety of residents.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine surveys and complaint investigations in nursing homes.
• Travel to facilities up to three days per week, with occasional weekend or night shifts.
• Prepare detailed survey reports, including statements of deficiency and findings.
• Pass the Federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) after training.
• Coordinate overnight stays when facilities are more than 60 miles from the home base.

Required profile

• Current nursing license with strong clinical background in assessment, care planning, and delivery of care.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to compose technical reports with proper grammar.
• Willingness to travel throughout Buncombe, Gaston, Henderson, Macon, Madison, Polk, Transylvania, and Yancey counties.
