Medical Device Reprocessing Technician

About the role

The Medical Device Reprocessing Technician ensures that surgical instruments, respiratory equipment, and other patient‑care devices are safely cleaned, assembled, and sterilized according to departmental procedures and infection‑control standards. This position supports the operating rooms and emergency trauma areas by maintaining a reliable supply of sterile equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Disassemble and decontaminate surgical instruments, respiratory equipment, and other patient‑care devices following established protocols.
• Assemble, inspect, package, and sterilize instruments, equipment, and surgical linens.
• Transport supplies between the MDR department, operating rooms, and the ER trauma room.
• Perform cleaning duties using aseptic techniques.
• Participate actively in departmental quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Current experience in Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) required.
• Grade 12 or equivalent education.
• Successful completion of a recognized CRCST program with appropriate certification.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift and handle chemical solutions for extended periods.
• Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check.

Required skills

• Knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
