Nurse Consultant I – Acute/Home Care Section

About the role

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services seeks a Nurse Consultant I to join the Acute and Home Care Licensure and Certification Section. This home‑based role supports the Western region of North Carolina, conducting licensure and certification surveys for Home Care, Home Health, and Hospice agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform on‑site standard and complaint surveys to verify compliance with state licensure and federal regulations.
• Prepare deficiency reports based on observations, record reviews, and interviews.
• Review and evaluate Plans of Correction submitted by providers.
• Provide clarification on licensure and certification processes to the public, providers, and prospective providers.
• Intake and investigate public complaints and respond to written information requests.
• Engage with health‑care associations, civic clubs, and professional organizations regarding licensure and inspection goals.

Required profile

• Residence in one of the specified counties (Forsyth, Guilford, Rowan, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Union, Iredell, Montgomery, or surrounding counties).
• Willingness to travel frequently, sometimes on short notice, including occasional overnight stays.
• Ability to use a state vehicle or personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
