Nurse Consultant I – Education Consultant

About the role

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services seeks a Nurse Consultant I to serve as an Education Consultant within the Health Care Personnel Education and Credentialing Section. This position conducts on‑site reviews of nurse aide training and competency evaluation programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform on‑site evaluations of nurse aide training programs across multiple counties.
• Identify program irregularities and recommend appropriate sanctions or approvals.
• Develop, revise, and review competency‑based curricula and test items for nurse aide education.
• Assess the suitability of instructional materials used in training and competency evaluation.
• Provide consultative support to nursing educators, including on‑site and off‑site assistance.
• Investigate complaints related to state‑approved nurse aide programs.
• Travel throughout designated western North Carolina counties, with occasional overnight stays.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
• Experience in nursing education, curriculum design, and test item development.
• Familiarity with federal and North Carolina state regulations governing nurse aide training.
• Strong analytical and investigative abilities.
