Assisted Living Surveyor – Facility Survey Consultant

About the role

The Department of Health and Human Services seeks a qualified professional to serve as an Assisted Living Surveyor within the Adult Care Licensure Section. This home‑based position involves ensuring compliance of assisted‑living facilities and overnight respite programs with state licensure rules and statutes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site inspections of licensed adult‑care homes and overnight respite programs across the Central Region.
• Analyze survey findings, determine compliance, and document results in a legally defensible manner.
• Provide technical assistance to facilities, potential providers, and county Department of Social Services staff.
• Maintain significant oral and written communication with facilities, staff, and the public.
• Travel frequently, sometimes on short notice, including occasional overnight stays; use state vehicle or personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.

Required profile

• Residence in Guilford, Forsyth, Surry, Randolph or contiguous counties.
• Professional knowledge of social work or human services, including medical terminology, disease processes, and clinical diagnostic procedures.
• Understanding of long‑term care delivery, assessment, care planning, and residents’ rights.
• Familiarity with state and federal standards, guidelines, and regulations governing adult‑care facilities.

• Strong oral and written communication for documenting findings.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and technical assistance processes.
