Software Engineer – Robotics & Autonomous Systems

About the role

Scale's Robotics business unit is building the data infrastructure that powers Physical AI for robotics, autonomous vehicles, and computer vision. As a Software Engineer you will design and implement large‑scale data pipelines, model training workflows, and real‑time evaluation tools that enable customers to collect, process, and improve robotics data.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and own large‑scale data processing pipelines for robotics and autonomous‑vehicle datasets.
• Build ML training and fine‑tuning pipelines using Scale’s robotics data.
• Develop end‑to‑end solutions across backend (Python, Node.js, C++) and frontend (React, TypeScript) stacks.
• Create tools for data collection, teleoperation, model evaluation, data curation, and annotation.
• Collaborate with robotics and AV stakeholders to translate technical needs into product features.
• Design monitoring and evaluation frameworks for model performance and data quality.
• Investigate complex, real‑time robotic system challenges, reviewing academic papers and working with vendors.
• Partner with ML engineers and researchers to move robotics research into production.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven ability to solve hard technical problems in complex, distributed systems.
• Experience working with cross‑functional teams that include ML engineers, researchers, and customers.
• Strong communication skills and high autonomy.
