Software Engineer – OpenStack

About the role

Canonical is looking for a Software Engineer to join its OpenStack Engineering team. You will develop and maintain Charmed OpenStack and Ceph, a suite of Python‑based charms that automate the deployment and management of OpenStack and Ceph across diverse environments.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team.
• Write high‑quality Python code to add new features and fix bugs.
• Debug issues and produce reliable, maintainable solutions.
• Review code contributions from other engineers.
• Discuss ideas and help design robust solutions.
• Ensure OpenStack and Ceph run successfully on multiple architectures, including non‑x86 platforms.
• Work remotely with occasional international travel (2‑4 weeks per year) for internal and external events.

Required profile

• Passionate about open source, Linux, and software‑defined data centres.
• Curious, flexible, articulate, accountable and self‑motivated.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent.
• Professional experience with Python.
• Interest and experience with at least two of the following: Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, AI/ML, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Go, C, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Debian packaging, scalable web services.
• Experience with non‑x86 architectures such as s390 or arm64 is a plus.
