Software Engineer – Ceph & Distributed Storage

About the role

Canonical is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Cloud Engineering team, focusing on Ceph and distributed storage. You will design, build and maintain modelling software that powers OpenStack, Ceph and Kubernetes deployments for enterprise customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Write high‑quality, rigorously designed Python and Go software for Ceph operators and related storage tools.
• Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team to debug issues and deliver production‑ready solutions.
• Develop and maintain software for delivery, operations, and lifecycle management of Ceph storage clusters.
• Produce technical documentation that defines best practices for authoring high‑quality operators.
• Travel internationally several times a year to attend internal events and align on strategy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent.
• Experience writing modern, maintainable Python code.
• Hands‑on experience with Ceph storage systems.
• Strong interest in distributed systems, open‑source ecosystems and cloud technologies.
• Willingness to work remotely and communicate effectively with a global team.
