Senior Staff Data Engineer

About the role

Yalo is seeking a Senior Staff Data Engineer to own and evolve its data platform that powers analytics, dashboards, and AI agents. This senior technical ownership role focuses on architecture, standards, and reliability rather than people management.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain 99.9% uptime of critical data pipelines and define clear SLAs.
• Design a modular, real‑time, agent‑ready data architecture for both dashboards and LLM‑based agents.
• Own the semantic layer that provides a single source of truth across Looker, Power BI, and AI agents.
• Implement data governance with role‑based access and enforce stage ownership boundaries.
• Drive cost efficiency across BigQuery, dbt, Kafka, and Airflow, targeting >20% savings.
• Lead technical incident response and set standards for code review and documentation.

Required profile

• 8+ years of Data Engineering or Analytics Engineering experience, including staff‑level technical ownership.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Proven ability to solve ambiguous, cross‑team architecture problems and influence without direct authority.

Required skills

• Airflow, dbt, BigQuery, Kafka, and GCP‑native tooling.
• Python, SQL, and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform or equivalent).
• Experience with semantic/metrics layers (dbt Semantic Layer, LookML, Cube, etc.).
• Knowledge of data governance, role‑based access, and audit trails.
