Senior DevOps and Data Engineer

About the role

Proofpoint is seeking a Senior DevOps and Data Engineer to join its Data Platform team. This hybrid position bridges platform engineering and data infrastructure, ensuring reliable, automated delivery of data pipelines and analytics capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.) for AWS Glue ETL jobs, Athena views and related infrastructure.
• Build and manage AWS cloud resources using Terraform and/or AWS CDK, covering S3, IAM, VPC, Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, and more.
• Own observability for data pipelines with metrics, logs and alerts via CloudWatch, Datadog or equivalents.
• Develop self‑service DataOps tooling, pipeline templates and shared libraries for data engineers.
• Manage container and compute environments (Docker, ECS/EKS, Lambda) supporting data ingestion microservices.
• Operate workflow orchestration platforms such as Amazon MWAA/Apache Airflow and Step Functions.
• Build and maintain large‑scale AWS Glue ETL jobs (PySpark) on the S3 data lake.
• Drive security best practices, including secrets management, least‑privilege IAM and network segmentation.
• Lead incident response, on‑call duties and post‑mortem improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to architecture decision records.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, platform engineering or SRE, with at least 2 years in data engineering.
• Deep expertise with core AWS services (S3, IAM, VPC, Lambda, ECS/EKS, CloudWatch, Secrets Manager).
• Hands‑on experience with AWS data services: Glue, Athena and S3 lifecycle management.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (Terraform, AWS CDK) and CI/CD systems.
• Strong communication skills to translate operational concerns for technical and non‑technical audiences.
