Experienced Medical Interpreting Trainer

About the role

The Medical Interpreting Trainer designs and delivers training programs that equip bilingual professionals with the linguistic and professional competencies required to interpret safely in healthcare settings. The role follows nationally recognized standards and prepares candidates for national certification.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and facilitate interpreter training covering protocols, ethics, medical terminology, and the three interpreting modes.
• Conduct structured drills, role‑plays, and realistic simulations to reinforce consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation skills.
• Assess trainee performance through written and oral evaluations and provide targeted coaching.
• Prepare candidates for national certification exams, explaining format and expectations.
• Develop, update, and maintain training materials, glossaries, lesson plans, and assessment tools.
• Maintain accurate training records, attendance, and outcome reporting.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance to align performance standards with training initiatives.
• Mentor and onboard new interpreters, modeling professional conduct and cultural responsiveness.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years professional experience as a medical/healthcare interpreter.
• At least 1 year of experience training or facilitating adult learners.
• Working familiarity with the Core Medical Interpreter Training (CMIT) curriculum.
• Strong understanding of national codes of ethics and standards of practice for healthcare interpreting.
• Full professional fluency in English and at least one additional language (spoken and written).
• Excellent presentation, facilitation, and feedback skills.
