Energy Systems & AI Research Lead (Remote, 3-year grant)

About the role

The Energy Systems & AI Research Lead will act as the scientific integrator for the NEST programme, connecting energy modelling, AI, inference science and policy expertise across a global consortium. This fully remote, three‑year grant‑funded position drives the development of AI‑agent architectures that link energy models from buildings to national systems.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary energy‑systems expert and scientific coordinator for the NEST programme.
• Translate concepts and results between energy modelers, AI researchers, inference scientists and policy analysts.
• Lead programme management, ensuring rigorous, coherent, decision‑relevant outcomes.
• Utilise AI‑native coordination tools to minimise administrative overhead and focus on methodology.
• Maintain regular overlap with Central European and U.S. Pacific working hours.

Required profile

• Proven scientific leadership and programme‑management experience in interdisciplinary research.
• Strong background in energy modelling, AI research, Bayesian inference and policy analysis.
• Experience working remotely with international, multi‑institutional teams.
• Excellent communication skills for translating across disciplines.
