CISO / VP Data Security - Fintech & Crypto

About the role

Veta Virtual is hiring a CISO / VP Data Security for a high-growth fintech and cryptocurrency client. This is a senior, high-visibility position with full program ownership, reporting directly to leadership, and is not a hands-on technical support role. The role covers policy and regulatory readiness, vendor risk and incident response, and requires being based in Latin America or Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all cybersecurity matters in line with laws, best practices and state regulations, and ensure the program stays current and compliant.
• Choose the right controls for the company's technology and threat environment and lead the defense strategy.
• Partner with operations and engineering teams so solutions are built securely from the start.
• Provide strategic cybersecurity guidance and shape major business decisions through a security lens.
• Serve as the main contact with regulators during audits and throughout the year.
• Review and approve cybersecurity policies, procedures and written supervisory procedures, and update the policy annually.
• Identify and document asset vulnerabilities and threats, and audit security and continuity practices.
• Lead the selection, implementation and monitoring of controls across communications, physical offices, encryption and remote customer access.
• Drive adherence to cybersecurity measures and oversee third-party vendor risk.
• Report regularly to leadership on the cybersecurity program's health.

Required profile

• 10+ years of cybersecurity experience, including direct ownership of a security program.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field; master's preferred.
• Experience with security, DevOps and incident response teams, and in a highly regulated industry working directly with regulators.
• Direct-to-consumer experience preferred; bonus points for cryptocurrency and blockchain knowledge and a passion for fintech.
• Must be based in Latin America or Europe.

Required skills

• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud systems.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes or other container-based systems.
• Proficiency in Python, Golang or a similar dynamic language.
• Experience with data warehousing and data analysis.
• Comfort with AI tools for research, reporting and productivity is a strong plus.
