About the role

The Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication at Ghent University seeks a full‑time assistant academic staff member to support both teaching and research activities. The appointment is primarily research‑oriented, with at least half of the time dedicated to preparing a doctoral dissertation in one of the department’s research groups.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct academic research related to multilingual communication, translation & interpreting sciences, terminology, or language technology.
• Teach courses in foreign language, translation, or interpreting skills (Spanish and Dutch or English for translation/interpreting).
• Coach individual students, supervise bachelor theses, and support self‑study activities.
• Participate in didactic projects and contribute to internal and external departmental services.
• Submit a PhD application to the FWO and the BOF during the first term, if formal criteria are met.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Translation, Interpreting, Multilingual Communication, Linguistics, or a comparable field, with a focus on Spanish.
• Strong interest in academic research and willingness to pursue a PhD.
• Excellent teaching and communication abilities.
• C1+ proficiency in Spanish (CEFR) and excellent written/oral proficiency in English or Dutch.

Required skills

• Spanish language proficiency (C1+).
• English or Dutch proficiency for academic communication.
