Attorney Advisor – Federal Government

About the role

This position serves as an Attorney Advisor within the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), providing legal guidance to senior leadership, directors, and various directorates. The role influences policy, ensures compliance, and supports the laboratory’s mission through expert legal analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to AFRL attorneys, commanders, executive directors, and senior staff on operational legal issues.
• Investigate factual situations, identify legal issues, conduct research, and ensure compliance with statutes, regulations, and policies.
• Draft, negotiate, and review a wide range of legal instruments, agreements, and supporting documents.
• Advise on intellectual property, technology transfer, ethics, and legislative or regulatory changes affecting AFRL.
• Represent AFRL in meetings, boards, committees, and negotiations with external counsel.
• Assist with litigation processes, discovery requests, and litigation holds.
• Handle information releases, including FOIA responses and privacy act considerations.
• Conduct internal investigations and review complex documents related to research and technology projects.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship.
• At least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
• Male applicants must be registered for Selective Service.
• Willingness to file an OGE Form 450 Confidential Disclosure Report.
