Senior Accountant – Tax & Business Advisory

About the role

BDO is seeking a Senior Chartered Accountant to join its Nelson office, working across Business Advisory and Tax. You will own a portfolio of clients, deliver high‑quality compliance and tax advice, and support advisory projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review annual financial statements and income tax returns for a variety of entities.
• Provide tax advisory, management reporting and client‑ready recommendations.
• Manage and grow client relationships, communicating clearly and delivering on time.
• Coach, review and support the development of junior and intermediate accountants.

Required profile

• CA qualified (or equivalent) with solid experience in a New Zealand public practice environment.
• Proven capability in income‑tax compliance and a strong working knowledge of NZ tax, including GST and provisional tax.
• Excellent relationship and communication skills, comfortable dealing directly with business owners and decision‑makers.
• Proactive, collaborative attitude with an interest in mentoring others.
