Senior Accountant – Climate Tech & Energy Transition

About the role

Planetary Scale is looking for a Senior Accountant to manage the accounting and finance operations of several venture‑backed climate‑tech and energy‑transition startups. You will work remotely with overlapping US hours, handling day‑to‑day finance tasks and month‑end close from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Own month‑end close for multiple client companies, including reconciliations, accruals, prepaid and fixed‑asset schedules, and financial statement preparation.
• Run payables and receivables using tools such as Bill.com and Brex, manage invoicing, collections, and ensure timely vendor payments.
• Process payroll for some clients and handle occasional filings such as Delaware Franchise Tax, state sales tax returns, and year‑end 1099s.
• Apply appropriate accounting treatment for revenue recognition, government grants, venture debt, and multi‑currency transactions.
• Support audits and investor diligence by preparing schedules and responding to auditor and investor inquiries.

Required profile

• 4–10 years of experience, including time at a Big Four or leading national/regional accounting firm.
• CPA or equivalent qualification (or exceptional experience without it).
• Strong command of US GAAP and ability to handle complex accounting topics such as grants and venture debt.
• Excellent written and spoken English with availability to work US hours.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with QuickBooks Online or Xero.
• Familiarity with Bill.com, Brex, and payroll processing tools.
• Proficiency in month‑end close, accruals, fixed‑asset accounting, and revenue recognition.
• Experience preparing tax filings (sales tax, franchise tax, 1099s) and supporting audits.
