Process Control Engineer – Advanced Process Control Lead

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Control Engineer to lead the development, maintenance, and optimisation of advanced process control (APC) systems for a 175,000 t/d copper/gold/silver concentrator. The role ensures stable, reliable, and efficient plant operation by supporting DCS/PLC systems, implementing control strategies, and providing real‑time support to operations and maintenance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a process control team in a high‑altitude mining environment, covering primary, secondary and tertiary crushing, HPGR, SAG/ball milling, regrind mills, flotation, thickeners, filters and concentrate handling.
• Develop and tune PID loops, design APC strategies, and reduce variance in throughput, grinding and flotation performance.
• Validate system design and control philosophies during project engineering and commissioning phases.
• Manage alarm systems, improve alarm criticality, and ensure control system reliability and cybersecurity compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical, Control Systems or related engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in process control or automation within mining, mineral processing or heavy‑industrial plants.
• Proven ability to work with large‑scale (>100 ktpd) copper concentrators and to lead cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Experience with DCS platforms (ABB, DeltaV, Yokogawa, Honeywell) and PLC/SCADA systems.
• Strong PID tuning, logic development and APC implementation skills.
• Proficiency with data platforms such as OSIsoft PI, SQL and Python.
• Knowledge of model‑predictive control, instrumentation, sensors, calibration and industrial networks.
• Familiarity with machine‑learning or AI‑driven optimisation tools is a plus.
