Principal System Engineer

About the role

The Principal System Engineer will lead the operation, security, and evolution of Boehringer Ingelheim's enterprise Snowflake platform, ensuring a reliable, scalable, and automated data ecosystem for global business and IT teams.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, operate, and continuously improve the Snowflake platform, including security, roles, access controls, and governance.
• Monitor platform health, performance, availability, and cost efficiency across global environments.
• Design and implement automation for provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and operational processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve platform incidents, performance, and security issues.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to optimize workloads, pipelines, and data consumption.
• Support CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, and platform observability initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience administering Snowflake in enterprise settings.
• Deep understanding of Snowflake architecture, security, governance, and cost management.
• Solid knowledge of AWS services (IAM, Lambda, SQS, EventBridge, API Gateway, ECS) and cloud security principles.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, and SQL for automation and tooling.
• Experience with version control (Git), code reviews, testing, and maintainable design.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills in English.
