Operations Social Consultant

About the role

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) seeks a motivated Operations Social Consultant to support the Environmental and Social Solutions Division. Based at the Washington, D.C. headquarters, the role provides technical social support for public‑sector projects across the Caribbean, ensuring compliance with the Bank’s Environmental and Social Policy Framework.

Key responsibilities

• Support project teams in supervising public‑sector operations in Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados and the Bahamas.
• Conduct at least one supervision mission per assigned project and deliver ongoing social‑aspect support.
• Prepare supervision reports, aide‑memoires, and written comments on internal and external documents.
• Review and comment on terms of reference, Environmental and Social Assessments, Management Plans, and Resettlement Plans.
• Assist in preparing public‑sector operations (categories A, B, C or FI) including Environmental and Social Review Summaries.
• Update environmental and social risk ratings throughout project lifecycles.
• Perform due diligence on E&S issues, especially public consultation processes.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree in environmental studies, social sciences, development, or a related field.
• Experience in environmental and social impact assessments and project supervision.
• Familiarity with international development bank policies and safeguards.
• Ability to travel within the Caribbean region and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
