Nurse Consultant – Nursing Home Surveyor (NC)

About the role

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Nurse Consultant (Nursing Home Surveyor) to conduct regulatory inspections of nursing homes across Cabarrus, Rowan, Davidson, Mecklenburg, Stanly and Union counties. This home‑based position ensures facilities comply with federal and state requirements, protecting the health and safety of residents.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine surveys and complaint investigations in nursing homes.
• Prepare detailed survey reports, including statements of deficiency and findings on complaint allegations.
• Pass the Federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) after training.
• Travel up to three days per week to facilities, with occasional weekend, night‑shift, or overnight assignments when locations exceed 60 miles from the home base.

Required profile

• Minimum education and experience as defined in the vacancy announcement.
• Strong clinical background with experience in patient assessment, care planning and delivery of care.
• Excellent written communication skills for composing technical reports.
