Lead Data Scientist / Data Analyst

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Data Scientist / Data Analyst to design, validate, and integrate scalable machine‑learning solutions that standardize clinical signalment attributes and generate health‑predisposition insights within high‑volume data pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of optimized classification models for species, gender, breed, weight, and age.
• Build health‑predisposition insight models using standardized attributes and governed ontologies.
• Apply a deterministic‑first approach, using ML for high‑ambiguity cases and defining class‑frequency tiers, calibrated thresholds, and comprehensive evaluation plans.
• Produce confidence scores, method traces, exception flags, and model versioning artifacts; create model cards and documentation for governance and production transition.
• Validate performance across common, rare, ambiguous, and clinically significant cases using appropriate metrics.
• Implement training and evaluation pipelines in Databricks with MLflow tracking and reproducible builds.
• Collaborate with SMEs to refine labels, interpret validation feedback, and support integration into production pipelines.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in data science and machine learning for classification problems.
• Proven lead‑level ownership of end‑to‑end model delivery from prototyping through stabilization.
• Strong project execution skills in fixed‑scope, milestone‑driven delivery with multiple parallel model tracks.
• Advanced English proficiency (C1+ level) and excellent communication with domain experts.

Required skills

• Hands‑on Python for feature engineering, training, and evaluation.
• Databricks and MLflow experience for reproducible training, evaluation, and model versioning.
• Computer vision and natural language processing techniques for fuzzy matching and embedding‑based approaches.
• Knowledge of OMOP Common Data Model and SNOMED CT Veterinary Extension concept‑mapping.
• Expertise with classification metrics for imbalanced data (PR AUC, per‑class F1, balanced accuracy) and calibrated probability reliability diagrams.
