Lead Accountant - Buenos Aires
Belong · Province de Buenos Aires
Job description
About the role
Belong, an operating system for rental homeownership, is looking for an experienced Lead Accountant for its Buenos Aires finance team. You will be the day-to-day accounting lead, combining full-cycle accounting, team leadership and systems ownership. Much of the recurring volume is automated, so you supervise the processes, review exception queues, handle complex entries and ensure accurate, timely books and reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the close: own the close calendar, set deadlines and account ownership, review team deliverables and system outputs, and personally prepare complex, non-recurring entries.
- Own the balance sheet: set reconciliation standards, prepare complex reconciliations, investigate differences, clear aged items and correct errors at the source.
- Produce reporting: monthly financial statements and budget-versus-actual reports, explaining the drivers behind material variances.
- Lead the audit from inside the company: organize and review PBC schedules, respond to auditor questions and keep the books audit-ready.
- Lead the team: guide the Finance Operations Specialist and AR & Collections Specialist, set priorities and standards, and apply US GAAP consistently.
- Partner with the Finance Data Engineer to improve automated postings, transaction matching, reconciliations and close workflows.
Required profile
- 5 to 9 years of progressive, full-cycle accounting experience, including general-ledger and close ownership.
- Hands-on accounting in a venture-backed startup or fast-growing company.
- Record of leading a close in a lean team and handling complex journal entries, reconciliations and financial statements.
- Demonstrated support for or leadership of an external audit, including PBC schedules.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a Contador Publico qualification; experience with a US company or multi-entity environment is strongly preferred.
Required skills
- Strong command of US GAAP, accrual accounting, cut-off, balance-sheet substantiation and financial-statement preparation.
- Accounting systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage or similar.
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets (formulas, pivots, lookups, data validation).
- Excellent written and verbal English.
