Health Care Personnel Investigator (Nurse Consultant I)

About the role

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Health Care Personnel Investigator, classified as Nurse Consultant I, to conduct regulatory investigations of unlicensed health‑care workers. This home‑based position operates within the Complaint Intake and Health Care Personnel Registry Investigations Section and reports to a regional supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Perform independent administrative investigations of unlicensed health‑care personnel in various facilities for the NC Nurse Aide I Registry and Health Care Personnel Registry.
• Document findings on‑site and in‑office using computer systems and databases.
• Testify in administrative hearings as required.
• Travel frequently, including occasional overnight trips, to conduct investigations.
• Lift and transport a laptop and related equipment during field work.

Required profile

• Strong clinical background with knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and current diagnostic procedures.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize a varied workload.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the southeastern region of North Carolina.
• Residence in one of the specified central counties (e.g., Wake, Durham, Orange, etc.).
