ESG & Sustainability Associate Counsel

About the role

Join JPMorgan Chase’s Corporate Legal team as an ESG & Sustainability Associate Counsel. You will support the firm’s global ESG and sustainability initiatives, advising internal teams on disclosures, regulatory developments, carbon markets and related legal risks.

Key responsibilities

• Review and advise on the firm’s ESG, climate and sustainability public disclosures, including sustainability reports and mandatory TCFD/ISSB filings.
• Support the creation and implementation of policies, procedures and controls for ESG activities such as the American Dream Initiative.
• Collaborate with Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Government Relations, Risk and other functions on emerging ESG statutes and regulations.
• Review and negotiate carbon‑credit purchase agreements in partnership with the Operational Sustainability team.
• Monitor legal developments affecting ESG, climate, human‑rights and related topics and brief senior leaders.
• Develop AI‑driven tools to streamline legal processes and improve advice delivery.
• Maintain ESG Practice Group knowledge resources, organize regular meetings and CLE sessions.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of relevant experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification and membership in the appropriate jurisdiction.
• Compliance with all licensing requirements for the role’s location prior to start.
• Proactive, “can‑do” attitude with strong interest in sustainability and ESG matters.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Required skills

• Legal research and analysis of ESG‑related regulations.
• Drafting and negotiating contracts, including carbon‑credit agreements.
• Experience reviewing corporate disclosures and sustainability reports.
