Engineering Manager for IAM (Identity and Access Management)

About the role

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the IAM team, building high‑performing Go and Python services that secure identity and access across all products such as Ubuntu One SSO, Juju, LXD and MAAS. The role is fully remote, supporting teams in EMEA or AMER.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical vision and roadmap for IAM products in collaboration with product management.
• Lead, mentor and grow a high‑performance software engineering team.
• Design, implement, and review code for distributed, container‑native services.
• Ensure security, performance and observability of services on bare metal, public cloud and Kubernetes.
• Engage with upstream open‑source projects and community events.

Required profile

• Proven experience hiring and leading high‑performance software engineering teams.
• Strong background in Go and Python development.
• Experience with container technologies and Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of security, performance and large‑scale distributed systems.
• Excellent communication skills in English and willingness to travel twice a year.
