Psychiatric Liaison Nurse – Urgent Care

About the role

The Psychiatric Liaison Nurse (N3) works within the Urgent Care team at Concordia Hospital, providing mental‑health expertise to patients, families and staff in the Emergency Department. The role focuses on assessment, care planning, crisis intervention and ongoing evaluation for individuals experiencing psychiatric emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments using a biopsychosocial framework.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients in crisis.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention and therapeutic support to patients and families.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses and social workers.
• Offer consultation and guidance to ED/Urgent Care nurses on mental‑health matters.
• Document assessments, interventions and outcomes in accordance with hospital policies.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives related to mental‑health care.

Required profile

• Minimum of 3 years recent acute mental‑health nursing experience.
• Previous experience in an Emergency Department is preferred.
• Demonstrated competence in psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention and therapeutic communication.
• Knowledge of co‑occurring disorders and ability to work within a biopsychosocial model.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to support patients and families under stress.
