Senior Software Engineer – Low‑Latency Trading Systems

About the role

Kraken is looking for a senior software engineer to strengthen the core of its crypto exchange trading infrastructure. You will work on the ultra‑low‑latency messaging layer that moves market data, orders and trade events across the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the Aeron‑based messaging transport layer for the Kraken trading engine.
• Design high‑availability, low‑latency messaging solutions using unicast, multicast and IPC transports.
• Profile and tune the full stack – CPU pinning, NUMA topology, kernel bypass, buffer sizing – to minimise latency in production.
• Extend Aeron Archive integrations for durable message replay and stream persistence.
• Implement security and risk‑mitigation features to protect systems and data.
• Write reusable, testable, and efficient C++ code and collaborate on the product roadmap.

Required profile

• Several years of experience building high‑performance, low‑latency systems.
• Strong expertise in C++ development.
• Hands‑on experience with Aeron or similar UDP‑based messaging libraries.
• Deep understanding of networking concepts such as unicast, multicast, IPC, and kernel‑bypass techniques.
• Proven ability to tune Linux systems for optimal latency (CPU pinning, NUMA, buffer management).
