Overnight Registered Nurse – Acute Care

About the role

The Overnight Registered Nurse provides direct, high‑quality nursing care to adults with acute behavioral health needs in the Acute Treatment Unit (ATU) and Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). Working overnight, the RN ensures a safe, therapeutic environment while meeting clinical and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver inpatient behavioral health nursing services, including therapeutic interventions, mental status exams, and crisis assessment.
• Administer and monitor medications, coordinate with pharmacies, and document accurately to meet regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate internal and external care to integrate physical and behavioral health services.
• Assess admission and discharge medical necessity, make appropriate decisions, and complete required documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists and program managers, to ensure appropriate risk‑based admissions.
• Maintain safety in the milieu through vigilant monitoring, de‑escalation, and client safety interventions.
• Respond to phone inquiries and referrals, gathering complete admission information within required time frames.

Required profile

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Experience in acute behavioral health or similar high‑acuity settings.
• Ability to work overnight shifts and function effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong understanding of clinical and regulatory standards for behavioral health care.
• Excellent communication skills for therapeutic relationship building and team collaboration.
