Senior Software Engineer (Elasticsearch, Scala)

About the role

Solvd Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to drive the food search experience for a leading health and nutrition platform. You will work on backend services, search infrastructure, and experimentation to improve conversion, query abandonment, and result relevance.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services that power food search, integrating with broader engineering systems.
• Perform end‑to‑end Elasticsearch performance tuning, including data design, indexing, query evaluation, and iterative improvements.
• Evaluate and implement new search and data technologies to enhance result quality and user experience.
• Collaborate with senior search engineers, product managers, and leadership on solution discovery, experiment planning, and delivery.
• Develop tools, processes, and metrics for measuring and monitoring search quality.

Required profile

• Proven experience tuning Elasticsearch at scale, with strong knowledge of index design, mapping, cluster management, and relevance optimization.
• Extensive background writing, shipping, and maintaining Scala services in production.
• Hands‑on experience building and supporting large‑scale data infrastructure, including databases (MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis) and messaging systems like Kafka.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and high‑availability, disaster‑recovery practices.
• Active use of AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) for code generation, refactoring, debugging, and test authoring.
