Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

AgileEngine is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build the core services of a next‑generation advertising platform. You will work on high‑throughput, low‑latency systems that power campaign delivery, targeting, attribution, and partner integrations, using Python, Django, Kubernetes, and AWS.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and evolve the core backend systems for the Ads platform.
• Design APIs and services for campaign management, targeting, delivery, attribution, and reporting.
• Build and optimise high‑throughput pipelines that process large volumes of events and data.
• Own end‑to‑end system lifecycle: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Define architectural patterns that ensure scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.
• Collaborate with product, data, and partner teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, system discussions, and mentorship of other engineers.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, documentation, and the long‑term platform vision.
• Participate in hiring and help grow a high‑performing engineering team.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of software development experience building scalable backend systems.
• Strong understanding of computer‑science fundamentals such as algorithms, data structures, networking, and databases.
• Proven ability to design and scale distributed systems with a focus on performance, observability, and fault tolerance.
• Demonstrated architectural instincts and experience making high‑impact technical decisions.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering practices across teams.
• Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
• Availability to work until 1 pm EST (approximately 8 pm Kyiv time).
• Comfortable in a fast‑paced, high‑autonomy, product‑driven environment.
