Senior AWS Data Engineer

About the role

ON.energy is seeking a hands‑on Senior AWS Data Engineer to join a small, focused data team. You will be responsible for scaling and optimizing the company’s AWS‑based data platform, working with high‑volume industrial time‑series data and delivering reliable, analytics‑ready datasets.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with end users to understand data consumption patterns and design appropriate solutions.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for both batch and real‑time processing, including high‑frequency time‑series ingestion.
• Enhance the Data Lakehouse architecture for better storage efficiency, performance, and consistency.
• Manage complex orchestration workflows with robust error handling.
• Implement data governance, security controls, and audit policies using AWS Lake Formation.
• Optimize performance and cost (FinOps) by identifying and resolving technical bottlenecks.
• Partner with the Data Analyst to deliver production‑ready, analytics‑optimized datasets.
• Build monitoring, alerting, and data‑quality testing to ensure platform reliability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in Data Engineering or Analytics Engineering.
• Strong hands‑on experience with core AWS data services.
• Proven ability to work independently and mentor peers.

• AWS Glue, Athena, Step Functions, Lambda, Kinesis, Lake Formation
• Apache Iceberg
• Python (including PySpark) and advanced SQL
• Dimensional modeling (Kimball methodology)
• NoSQL (DynamoDB) and relational databases
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
• Apache Airflow (MWAA preferred), dbt, Airbyte, Fivetran
• CI/CD automation for Glue jobs or Lambda deployments
