Senior Accountant – Accounting Operations

About the role

IBM Finance & Operations is looking for a Senior Accountant to support accounting operations for the North America region. The role combines analytical expertise with collaboration across digital squads to drive process automation, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and analyze financial data from internal parties, prepare worksheets and reports in line with IBM Accounting Principles.
• Maintain general ledger accounts, reconcile balances, and perform necessary adjustments on variances or aged items.
• Implement process changes according to the latest accounting guidelines and work with senior analysts to update procedures.
• Provide data and support for internal and external audits, including Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) testing.
• Collaborate with the Accounting Systems team to define user requirements and conduct user testing for change requests.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field.
• Experience with financial data analysis and operational accounting activities.
• Proficiency in general ledger maintenance and account reconciliation.
• Background in implementing accounting process changes and updating procedural documentation.
• Familiarity with audit support, SOX compliance, basic tax rules and GAAP principles.
