Principal Software Engineer

About the role

The Principal Software Engineer will design, build, and operate cloud‑native platform services for Boehringer Ingelheim’s global Data Platforms team. You will work with AWS, Snowflake and modern software engineering practices to create scalable, resilient, and automated solutions that support the enterprise data ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate cloud‑native services on AWS and Snowflake, including data ingestion, integration and processing.
• Develop event‑driven architectures using AWS messaging services and create reusable APIs, frameworks and accelerators.
• Automate provisioning, deployment, monitoring and operational processes through CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
• Implement observability, logging and alerting across platform services.
• Collaborate with data engineers, architects, security teams and business stakeholders to deliver platform solutions.
• Apply AI‑assisted development tools to improve code quality, testing and automation.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience designing cloud‑native solutions on AWS and Snowflake.
• Proficiency in Java, Python and SQL with a solid software engineering background.
• Experience building event‑driven, message‑based architectures in the cloud.
• Demonstrated ability to implement CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift and Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
• Fluent English communication skills and ability to work in globally distributed teams.
