Linux Devices Software Engineer (SnapD)

About the role

Canonical is looking for a Linux Devices Software Engineer to join the SnapD team. You will work on mission‑critical Go code that powers software delivery, containers, security sandboxing, telemetry and device management for Ubuntu‑based devices.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively with a distributed, global team.
• Write high‑quality Go code to add new features and improve existing ones.
• Debug Linux system‑level issues and deliver robust fixes.
• Review code submitted by peers and ensure best practices.
• Discuss design ideas and contribute to solution architecture.
• Maintain system robustness in adverse conditions such as power outages.
• Travel up to two weeks twice a year for in‑person team meetings.

Required profile

• Passionate about open‑source software development.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent.
• Professional software development experience with Go, Python, C or C++.
• Strong understanding of Linux system‑level fundamentals (cgroups, namespaces, AppArmor).
• Commitment to testing, code reviews and maintainable code.
• Self‑motivated, curious, flexible and accountable.
