Legal Manager & Counsel – Commercial Contracts

About the role

American Express is seeking a senior legal professional to join its Legal Services Team (LST) in Argentina. Reporting to the LST Director & Counsel in London, you will provide high‑quality legal support across the global business, focusing on commercial contracts and risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Act as an independent trusted advisor, identifying and managing legal risk for the wider Amex business.
• Draft, review, analyse and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements.
• Support internal governance, coordinating with compliance, risk, finance and other stakeholders.
• Liaise with external counsel to obtain and finalise legal opinions.
• Conduct legal research and assist with company secretarial matters.
• Lead, mentor and supervise LST team members, fostering knowledge sharing and professional development.
• Contribute to budgeting, expense control and internal training initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified to practice law in Argentina or a comparable jurisdiction.
• Minimum 8 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in financial services.
• Strong commercial awareness and experience in commercial contracts.
• Proven ability to work closely with global business clients and internal legal teams.
• Demonstrated leadership and client‑care track record.
