About the role
Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is hiring a Lead Software Engineer in Buenos Aires for its Product Engineering team, which builds the digital and streaming products and platforms for Disney Entertainment and ESPN. The team also provides the tools that operator teams use to run quality control (QC) on live and video-on-demand media workflows. The Lead Software Engineer owns the architecture of the shared player library and leads the work of moving streaming-protocol concerns behind a clean API.
Key responsibilities
- Own the architecture of the shared player library, including its API surface, versioning strategy and evolution without breaking consumers.
- Lead the work of moving streaming-protocol concerns out of the player and behind a clean API, and design hooks and data APIs so consuming teams can build their own control layouts.
- Implement and maintain features on the QC player stack used daily by operator teams.
- Establish engineering standards: test coverage, code and design review, and how work is split across layers.
- Work with QC operators to turn observed pain into product-shaped requirements.
- Lead deployment quality and stability strategy, including testing approach and player telemetry/RUM.
- Mentor engineers, raise the bar through review, and unblock issues blocking content testing and release.
- Provide on-call rotational support as needed.
Required profile
- 5+ years of experience building and delivering production-grade software applications.
- Advanced level of English.
- Hands-on coding: implementing and debugging in an unfamiliar codebase.
- Concrete system design: defining interfaces, interactions and responsibilities for unfamiliar problems.
- Technical ownership: setting the direction of a system through your own code and design review.
- Communication and mentoring: explaining technical decisions clearly to engineers and non-engineering partners.
Required skills
- Strong React 18+ and TypeScript.
- Experience integrating media players into web applications.
- Solid grasp of async programming models (events, callbacks, promises, async/await) and concurrency.
- Experience designing or maintaining a library or package consumed by other teams (versioning, backward compatibility, breaking changes).
- Source control, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, and comfort with containerized build and deploy tooling.
- Problem-solving: identifying root causes.
