Controller / Bookkeeper (Remote, Full‑time)

About the role

We are seeking a full‑time Controller/Bookkeeper to lead the accounting function of a fast‑growing proptech company that protects real‑estate transactions from fraud. The position is fully remote, operates on EST hours, and reports directly to senior leadership, providing visibility into the company’s financial health.

Key responsibilities

• Own day‑to‑day accounting operations: accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Manage the monthly close and deliver accurate P&L, balance sheet, aging reports, and variance analysis by business day 7.
• Maintain QuickBooks Online books, ensuring proper categorization, reconciliations, and chart‑of‑accounts structure.
• Oversee B2B invoicing, collections, and follow‑up for 40+ accounts.
• Handle vendor payments, credit‑card reconciliations, and cash‑flow tracking.
• Prepare weekly cash‑flow reports and short‑term forecasts for leadership.
• Track multi‑state compliance deadlines (payroll tax, sales tax, 1099s, BOI filings).
• Coordinate tax preparation with external CPA firms.
• Run payroll in Gusto and manage compensation updates.
• Build and improve accounting workflows, internal controls, and SOPs.

Required profile

• 7+ years of accounting or controllership experience supporting US‑based companies.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and multi‑state tax compliance.
• Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and proactive in a fast‑moving startup environment.
• Excellent written English and professional communication skills.

Required skills

• QuickBooks Online (ProAdvisor certification preferred).
• Gusto payroll platform.
