Application Engineer, CNC & Sheet Metal

About the role

We are seeking an Application Engineer to join Xometry’s Sales and Engineering teams. You will evaluate CAD models and technical drawings, assess manufacturability, calculate costs, and provide design‑for‑manufacturing feedback to deliver fast, accurate quotes for our customers.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze 2D drawings and 3D CAD models (English) for manufacturability.
• Calculate material, machining, and post‑processing costs.
• Provide DFM recommendations and document calculations for the Sales/Commercial team.
• Organize RFQs, clarify details with Sales and Engineering, and maintain quote databases.
• Deliver high‑quality quotes within 1–2 working hours.
• Support process‑automation and workflow‑optimization initiatives.

Required profile

• Higher technical education in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Process Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in metalworking or mechanical engineering.
• Customer‑oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
• Ability to work under time pressure and maintain high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of machining and fabrication processes: turning, milling, CNC machining, EDM, laser/waterjet/plasma cutting, sheet metal processing, welding.
• Understanding of post‑processing methods: polishing, hardening, heat treatment, anodizing, sand/shot blasting, coatings, painting.
• Familiarity with a range of materials (metals, plastics, composites) and their properties.
• Proficiency with CAD/CAM tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CypCut.
• Experience with technical drawing interpretation and cost estimation.
