Nurse Consultant – Acute & Home Care

About the role

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services seeks a Nurse Consultant I to support the Acute and Home Care Licensure and Certification Section. This home‑based position involves traveling throughout the Central/Eastern region of North Carolina to ensure compliance of home health, hospice, and home care agencies with state and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site standard and complaint surveys of home care, home health, and hospice providers.
• Prepare detailed deficiency reports based on observations, record reviews, and interviews.
• Review and evaluate Plans of Correction submitted by providers.
• Provide clarification on licensure and certification processes to the public, providers, and prospective providers.
• Intake and investigate public complaints and respond to written information requests.
• Engage with health‑care associations, civic clubs, and professional organizations to discuss licensure and inspection goals.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse licensure with experience in acute and home‑care settings.
• Residency in or willingness to reside in the listed counties (e.g., Alamance, Craven, Cumberland, etc.).
• Ability to travel frequently, sometimes on short notice, including occasional overnight stays.
• Strong analytical and documentation skills for regulatory compliance.
