NextGen AI Technical Manager - Growth & Innovation

About the role

EY's Next-Generation AI team helps turn emerging AI capabilities into practical, secure and governable solutions, building small, high-fidelity experiments to test what AI can realistically do before decisions on scale or production are made. The NextGen AI Technical Manager provides technical expertise to assess emerging AI capabilities and their application to business and client challenges, working with account teams to identify opportunities and guide engineering teams through experimentation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a strong understanding of next-generation AI developments and conduct hands-on technical assessments of emerging capabilities, distinguishing advances from hype and recommending areas worth exploring.
• Review business and client challenges to see where emerging AI capabilities could offer a relevant or differentiated approach, and develop initial technical hypotheses for focused experiments or prototypes.
• Translate selected opportunities into experiments with clear hypotheses and evaluation criteria, and recommend models, architectures, frameworks, data approaches and technology components.
• Work with engineering teams to provide technical direction, review proposed approaches and challenge design decisions, identifying risks, constraints and trade-offs early.
• Define ways to evaluate experiments across capability, accuracy, reliability, performance, cost, security and enterprise readiness, and capture learnings and reusable patterns.
• Engage with engineers, technology partners, startups and open-source communities, and connect external expertise to experiments when needed.
• Apply governance, security and compliance requirements consistently across the experiment-to-delivery lifecycle, and use evidence to make timely trade-offs and re-prioritise work.

Required profile

• 8+ years in AI/ML engineering, software engineering, data engineering, solution architecture or related technical roles.
• Prior hands-on experience building AI/ML and GenAI solutions.
• Experience evaluating emerging AI technologies, architectures, models and frameworks for enterprise applicability.
• Experience working with engineering teams and giving technical guidance across prototypes, pilots or production solutions.
• Strong understanding of enterprise AI constraints, including privacy, security, governance, integration, scalability and cost.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and senior stakeholders.
