Mechanical Systems Engineer

About the role

Satellogic is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team responsible for the end‑to‑end development of a new satellite constellation. You will work on the design of structures, thermal control, harnessing, and key mechanical interfaces, contributing to mission success from concept through verification.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analysis of mechanical, structural, thermal, and harnessing subsystems for satellite platforms.
• Conduct trade studies, tradespace exploration, and system simulations to optimize mass, envelope, and performance.
• Interpret mission and spacecraft level requirements and translate them into detailed subsystem specifications.
• Collaborate with electrical, AOCS, thermal, and other engineering disciplines to negotiate and integrate requirements.
• Prepare and review launch‑vehicle interface documentation, including ICDs, test plans, and verification matrices.
• Define and track technical budgets such as mass properties, layout constraints, and component tolerances.

Required profile

• Mechanical engineering degree with experience in spacecraft or high‑reliability hardware design.
• Proven ability to manage requirements, perform trade studies, and deliver detailed design documentation.
• Strong analytical mindset and experience working in cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent).
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural assessment.
• Thermal analysis tools (Thermal Desktop, ESATAN, or similar).
• Requirement management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS).
• Knowledge of spacecraft mechanical components: connectors, fasteners, adhesives, separation systems, radiators, heat pipes.
• System simulation experience (MATLAB/Simulink).
