Infrastructure Engineer - Kubernetes Platform

About the role

Join the Core Infrastructure – Platforms team at Payward, the parent of Kraken, to help evolve and scale a Kubernetes platform that powers a global financial infrastructure. You will work alongside senior engineers, SRE, networking and security specialists to deliver a stable, secure foundation for all workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and scale Kubernetes clusters across multiple data‑centers.
• Triage and resolve infrastructure issues while learning internal best practices.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to solve complex problems and reduce operational toil.
• Build automation and tooling to improve team efficiency.
• Participate in on‑call rotation to maintain platform reliability.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, Platform/DevOps Engineer, Software Engineer or similar.
• Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused approach to unblock engineering teams.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and Linux fundamentals.
• Ability to leverage AI tools such as Claude or OpenAI to deliver business value.

Required skills

• Kubernetes internals (control plane, scheduling, networking, storage).
• Linux command line, processes, networking basics, file systems, permissions.
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, ports, IP addressing, basic routing, TLS, PKI.
• Advanced Kubernetes networking or orchestration (e.g., Cilium).
• Scripting or programming: Python, Bash, Go.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) – nice to have.
